Welcome to my website....
First for a housekeeping item. The term ealanta is gaelic for "artistic." Having been raised in a household that was very in tune with our Scottish roots, I thought it apropos to name my website accordingly.
About the artist:
I have been drawing since I was a small child initially starting with comic book characters such as the Archies. I later graduated to fantasy art as I developed a growing fascination with the comic characters Conan, King Kull, the Warlord and Red Sonja to name but a few. Throughout my teens, Epic magazine introduced me to a broad range of fantasy art and artists and I began to focus on the art work of Boris Vallejo, Frank Frazetta, and later Julie Bell. To this day, I have the entire series of Epic magazines with the exception of one or two issues.
In my thirties, after a long hiatus from my artwork, I veered away from fantasy art and started to dabble in wildlife drawings from photographs. Throughout, almost all of my drawings were done in pencil or charcoal. I dabbled in painting with acrylics but wasn't entirely happy with the results.
In my mid forties, I enrolled in the Visual Arts program at the University of Regina. I initially focused on the drawing classes in which they introduced me to many different drawing media such as conte, charcoal, soft pastels, and ink. Scheduling conflicts forced me to leave the program before I could start down the painting stream of classes. It is my hope that I will be able to resume my studies in the future.
In 2012, I started painting with oils on my own and discovered a passion for my art that I didn't know was possible. More recently, I have discovered the versatility of colour pencils and pastels and have been enjoying the control over the detail they provide.
The drawings and paintings on this page are my recent works.
